Meet Our Coaches

We don’t have trainers, we have coaches

Your coach, to be specific. One person, a partner in the gym and out, to support your specific goals, pain points, and life. Your coach knows where you’re at, they know where you’re going, and how to get you there. They know where you hold stress, where you injured yourself in college and when life gets hectic, how to best support you staying healthy and strong through it. A trainer is interchangeable, a person who shows you a movement, and keeps you accountable for the time you’re in the gym together. A coach supports your journey, while teaching you what you need, rather than needing them forever. Experience the difference and a better way to train.

  • Female coach. Personal trainer. Powerlifting. Gain strength from a coach with a decade of making strong humans.

    Holly Noll

No one expected Holly to become a coach and spend now well over a decade owning a gym. PE was not a favorite growing up, and sports have never been anything other than somewhere to get bullied or fall short. An overweight kid, she spent her young life in activism, and punk rock/hardcore, booking and playing shows, touring, etc.

After a young career spent as a professional chef, and an aggressively amateur musician, she saw CrossFit and a sport that appealed, a sport that looked cool, tough, equal. Where women were held up as the incredible athletes they are, rather than marginalized to "women's sports". Lifting weights seemed like someplace to belong. Competitive CrossFit became Competitive Powerlifting became Competitive Weightlifting, with a non-linear path circling back to each other occasionally in pursuit of the simple act of loving strength and movement. She loves working with athletes of all kinds, and currently has a full roster that is the Resilient Powerlifting Team.

She's coached athletes to state records, national qualifiers, international meets, countless gold medals and PRs, multiple back-to-back "best teams" in USAPL, and holds the current CA state record in Bench in USPA as well as American and Pan-American records in the Snatch. The Resilient Strength Powerlifting team accepts applications in in a rolling fashion so please reach out asap if you'd like to join, as we can get you training and in with the team.

  • Paola Female Coach. Looking for a place for strong women?

    Paola Garcia

For the entirety of her adulthood, Paola has been countering negative stereotypes about strength to encourage young women to take up space in the gym. She is well-versed in the challenges faced by new and seasoned lifters and has experience breaking down barriers. In her own fitness journey, Paola has transformed her body and mind through the power of strength training and her own coaching. She analyzes the bigger picture, not just progressions in the gym, to boost wellbeing, performance, and confidence.

As a UC Berkeley student and certified personal trainer, Paola is always learning from her research and network of fitness professionals to become the best coach she can be. She has advanced skills in collaboration and problem solving, so whatever your circumstances are, Paola will work with you to make your fitness goals your reality. Paola loves what she does and is excited to show you how strength can improve every aspect of your life.

Paola is a decorated competitive powerlifter who holds the USPA California State Record in Deadlift and is competing at 2026 USAPL Equipped Nationals.

Combining a passion for psychological well-being with hands-on leadership in site management, he brings a unique blend of empathy, organizational acumen, and strategic vision to every role he undertakes. Let’s not forget that Ash spent much of his youth racing bicycles with the USCF as a category II rider. Throughout his 15‐year career in mental health, Ash delivered individual and group counseling to diverse populations, including adults and families, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—psychiatrists, social workers, and community organizations—to design and implement treatment plans. As a rider coach, I developed and delivered advanced motorcycle rider training programs, emphasizing safety, technique, and mental readiness, as well as risk assessments to ensure client safety and stress management.

Cycling taught me how to compete both as a team and as an individual, and that my performance had a direct impact on everyone on the team. Cycling taught me grit and how to win the battle in my head, and to keep pushing forward, no matter what that voice says. In powerlifting, I have used this same mindset to keep moving forward and stay focused on goals and live life as an athlete. Finding the Resilient Strength community has been a true gift that has shown me that I have a blend of skills that would lead me to the joy of coaching strength training techniques and helping people find that “Fight and Grit” that we all have inside us. I have found that his love for powerlifting has made me stronger in all aspects of life.

My passion for helping others succeed drives me to help you, from where you are, to where you want to be, as a guide, mentor, and warrior at your side. I look forward to helping you find your strength, passion, purpose, and joy. I look forward to meeting you at The Resilient Strength!

He specializes in working with youth athletes of all skill levels, helping them build strength, confidence, and a solid foundation that translates to performance in any sport—or life in general. Dash has personally studied the science and strategy behind programming for athletic development and continues to train regularly himself. While his athletes are just beginning their strength journeys, he’s already seen major growth. Whether it’s making a form breakthrough or hitting a new PR, Dash thrives on helping others discover their potential and develop lifelong habits through training.

  • “I love this gym and community. Brian and Holly have worked hard to create a safe and fun community. If you have fitness goals, this is the place to be. I just competed in my first weightlifting comp and Holly and Brian made it the most fun and smooth experience for me. I constantly feel supported and cared for, and couldn’t ask for better coaches to help me become a stronger athlete. Not to mention other coaches like Paola, who’s always ready to help. And the special mascot, Kilo. I couldn’t ask for a more supportive community!

  • “Brian and Holly have created a wonderful, welcoming, and strong community at The Resilient Strength that only amplifies the quality coaching. They meet you exactly where you’re at and help you meet any goal. I came in with only some powerlifting knowledge, and in a year competed in three powerlifting and weightlifting competitions. Can’t recommend them highly enough!”
    -Jules

  • I have such a great amount of respect for the place and community that Coaches Holly and Brian have built. Coach Paola also helps create an incredible space where people want to keep showing up for themselves and for their goals. The Resilient Strength is purposeful, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the athletes that enter through the front door, whether they are trying to introduce themselves to the world of strength training, or if they are trying to take their game to the next level. I have trained here for a little less than a year, and my only regret is that I took so long to find this space. I consider myself an aspiring powerlifting competitor. It is deeply reassuring to have personal coaching that will align with my interests, and is actively helping me achieve the dreams and PRs that I want to reach. The amount of growth I have experienced as an athlete in such a short amount of time is beyond my expectations, and I am exceptionally grateful for the ride. Highly recommended.

  • “Resilient Strength is easily the best all around gym I’ve been to, and not just by what it has to offer equipment wise, but because of the people and level of coaching available . Coach Brian Wilbur is an AMAZING coach to say the least. Between him and coach Holly they are masters of anything weights. I came in wanting to compete in Olympic lifting and ended up doing my first competition and have nationals ahead. And the other athletes are the most welcoming group I’ve ever met.

As a former 3 year varsity football starter and all-league player, I highly recommend the Resilient Strength and their coaches to get you ready for your next competition, season, and or level. They’re the real deal.”

    -Ethan

  • I really love Weightlifting (snatch and clean and jerk). I consume all the content, but thought I was just weak and bad. After hearing a few breadcrumbs from videos, I found out that I was pretty good for an old guy! I wanted to start competing as a Masters athlete and discovered that I needed to get hooked up with a USAW gym.

This was one of the closest and I was so sold by my intake call with Brian.

Brian has been a exceptional coach - everything you want. I'm mostly a remote athlete, but cherish my chances to join my teammates at this gym - the energy is so supportive for everyone no matter their stage. Everyone is just competing with their past selves and we're all there to support each others' journey. Even though most of my interaction with Brian is over videos, he delivers smart programming, deeply insightful and delightfully nuanced technique optimizations, advice that pushes you correctly while also acknowledging your current circumstances, etc. Under his tutelage, my strength is consistently improving, along with my technique, my logistical strategies (when and how to fuel), etc.

My lifting has improved so far that I'm no longer just a dude in my basement, but actually have national championship in my crosshairs. My body feels great and my progress rate is astronomical compared to where I was doing it by myself (in hindsight so many mistakes.) It's all worth so much more than every penny. I'm so grateful to be a part of this community!

Strength Training, Fitness, Life-Changing, Confidence, Energy, Community
  • …I’ve been going to Resilient Strength for over three years, and it has all I could ever hope for in a gym, with an amazing community on top of that!

When I went there for the first time, I was incredibly intimidated by gyms in general after a long stretch of inactivity. The owner, Holly, worked with me to build my strength and confidence and the results have been more than I ever hoped for. I’ve also seen other athletes get started in this gym and go on to compete in strength events, with the rest of the gym cheering them on.

There’s all the equipment you could want (and they’re consistently upgrading the equipment and optimizing the use of the space), the community is supportive, inclusive, and fun, the group classes are challenging and rewarding, and the one-on-one training was legitimately life-changing. Holly and Brian have built and maintained an amazing space.

If you’re looking for a gym you’ll genuinely get excited to go to, run by people who care about their athletes’ well-being first and foremost and can work with all fitness levels, this is the space for you.”
